The forecast discussion added that "from a broader perspective," locally heavy rain was forecast to reach from the northern Plains to Texas.

At least 31 million people are at risk for severe storms from central Texas to Iowa on Monday, with hazards including large hail, damaging winds and several possibly strong tornadoes.

A rural North Texas school district canceled classes on Monday after a night of severe storms . Gordon ISD, located in Palo Pinto County, had extensive damage to school property and asked staff and students to stay off campus while emergency crews and insurance adjusters investigate.
